As at 22nd November, the running total of donations collected is now in excess of £31,000. An outstanding result for a fantastic (yet exhausting!) venture. The JustGiving page is still open if you would like to make a donation. Click on the 'G' logo below.
Simon Wood is one of our tenors. An idea had been buzzing around his head for a while about how to combine his love of choral singing with his desire to raise funds in support of Cancer Research UK, a cause of importance to him personally but also in light of the Society having lost a couple of members to the disease in the past year. One obvious line to follow was a Come-and-Sing event but which piece of music to choose as its centrepiece. Then the idea struck him - why limit it to just one?
So, from 8pm on Friday 2nd September to 8pm on Saturday 3rd September 2016, there's going to be an almighty 24-hour Come-and-Sing of not one, not two, but three Requiems! Specifically, the three chosen ones will be those from Messrs Chilcott, Duruflé and Mozart. The Fauré Requiem might also be sung through at some point, just for some light relief! And, as a bonus, there will also be the world premiere of a new anthem donated by Cecilia McDowall.
The venue for this great event will be St Paul's Church in Covent Garden. It will be familiar to many of you as the backdrop to where many of the entertaining street acts take place on Covent Garden's piazza throughout the year.
The sessions will be driven by two top choral directors, Neil Ferris and Jeremy Jackman ( right), supported by a top team of accompanists - Richard Hall, Michael Higgins, Nicola Rose and George Inscoe.
The participation cost will be £40 per singer and further information about the event and how to book your place can be found on its website by clicking here. You can also keep up to date with details as they evolve via Twitter and Facebook using the links below.
Simon has also opened up a page on the JustGiving website so that you may make a donation to Cancer Research UK, should you wish to do so. Maybe you are unable to participate in the singing but would like to make a donation anyway - it would be much appreciated.
