Accompanist (rehearsal and concert) required from September 2025
Wimbledon Choral is a well-established and flourishing choral society with a rich history dating back to 1914. Based in southwest London, we are one of the leading amateur choirs in the capital, known for performing both traditional and contemporary choral repertoire to a high standard. We have approximately 180 auditioned members and work regularly with professional soloists and orchestras.
After 17 amazing years as Wimbledon Choral's much-admired rehearsal accompanist, Michael Higgins is standing down from the role to focus on his composition work.
Therefore, we are seeking a skilled and experienced accompanist to support our weekly rehearsals (usually Mondays, 7.30–9.45pm) and, where appropriate, accompany us in concerts—typically held four times a year, in November, December, spring, and June.
While we welcome applicants at all career stages, we are looking for a pianist with strong sight-reading ability, sensitivity to choral balance, transposition skills and the professionalism to work closely with our Music Director and chorus in preparing complex and varied programmes. An interest in and talent for composing and arranging would be a welcome bonus.
We offer competitive remuneration for rehearsals and performances. Our rehearsal venue is St Mark's Church in central Wimbledon, easily accessible via public transport, and located within walking distance of Wimbledon station (National Rail, District Line, and Tramlink).
Please apply with CV and covering letter to our Secretary, Tracy Sherman, at secretary@wimbledon-choral.org.uk. Please call Tracy on 07947 721997 for an informal chat if you would like to discuss further or have any questions.
Application Deadline : 1st July 2025
