Grey Coat Hospital School
Greycoat Place, London SW1P 2DY
The Grey Coat Hospital is a Church of England school for girls aged eleven to eighteen which welcomes boys into the Sixth Form. Its affiliation with the United Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation has historic roots and provides additional benefits for its students. It is particularly renowned as an International School with Languages Specialism.
The school was formally established at the Trustees' first meeting held on St. Andrew's Day in 1698. Eight members of the congregation of St. Margaret's, Westminster donated towards the founding of the school, initially a day school for 50 boys, although it opened on 9 January 1698 with only 11 boys.
Today there are two sites for the school, the primary St Andrew's Building in Greycoat Place for Years 7-9 and the St Michael Building in Regency Street, a short distance away, for Years 10-13.
British composer Cecilia McDowall is a former student at the school.
