Merton SingFest 2018

SingFest is a Merton-based initiative, established originally as a collaboration between Wimbledon Choral Society, the Merton Music Foundation (MMF) and the Wimbledon-based professional choir Sonoro. This year's festival will be held from October 13 to 17, 2018.
This festival brings together the community to celebrate Merton's rich and varied chorus talent, because we believe that singing is good for everyone. The main goal of SingFest is to showcase the singing of the entire district, emphasizing singing groups at all levels and interests: from the Wimbledon community choir to small groups such as the Trinity URC Church Choir.
Wimbledon Choral Society celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015.   One of our “next century” goals is to re-establish closer ties with local communities. The unfortunate fact is that there hasn't been a large enough venue in Wimbledon for us to hold large-scale concerts (we have about 180 active singers), so although we rehearse in Wimbledon, and most of the members are from the south-west area of London, we are unable to perform in the borough as often as we would like.  That's why we enthusiastically support the campaign to build a Wimbledon concert hall and are happy to join Merton SingFest with MMF.
The Merton Music Foundation is run by Soo Bishop (left) and was established in March 1991 as charity, its principal objective being to "Advance musical educations within the framework of the arts for the benefit of the public in the London Borough of Merton and elsewhere". For more information, please visit www.mmf.org.uk.
The program for this year's festival is shown below. There are three main areas - the Adult Choir, the Children's Choir and the Gospel-style singing. Last year, under the active leadership of Pete Churchill (right) , the latter one proved to be very popular and he will participate again this year.
The school plan devised by Soo will be very interesting for young people.
