St Mark's Church, Wimbledon
St Mark's Place, Wimbledon SW19 7ND
The original St Mark’s Church was a Victorian building which burnt down in 1966. Today's contemporary building was designed by Humphrys & Hurst and constructed in 1968-9. The plan is pentagonal, with a light and spacious effect created by the tent-like, framed structure of the nave. Indirect day lighting is provided to the east wall behind the altar and to the centre of the nave via a roof top lantern.
This is the principal venue used by Wimbledon Choral Society for its Monday night rehearsals.
How to get to the venue
The church is in the heart of Wimbledon down St Mark's Place which lies between the Library and the Alexandra pub opposite Elys department store. It is only a 2-3 minute walk to Wimbledon rail, tram and tube station and many bus routes stop nearby.
